Elizabethton
Watauga Lake
Watauga Lake, claimed to be the third-cleanest lake in America, beckons water enthusiasts to Tennessee. You can enjoy a powerboat ride, fish, picnic or just spend a few relaxing hours by water's edge.
The Watauga Lake vicinity contrasts from highly-developed recreation facilities along TVA's 6,400-acre Watauga Lake to dispersed backcountry opportunities on White Rocks and Walnut mountains and in Pond Mountain Wilderness and Doe River Gorge Scenic Area.
Water-based recreation is abundant with Watauga Lake, seven waterfalls, Doe, Elk and Watauga rivers and several streams including Laurel Fork. Created in 1942 by the Tennessee Valley Authority, Watauga Lake is located a few miles east of Elizabethton. |
